France rejects veiled Muslim wife

Sorry, but I thought the Muslims were a bunch intolerant zealots?

Faiza M was described to be living "virtually as a recluse"
A French court has denied citizenship to a Muslim woman from Morocco, ruling that her practice of "radical" Islam is not compatible with French values.

The 32-year-old woman, known as Faiza M, has lived in France since 2000 with her husband - a French national - and their three French-born children.

Social services reports said the burqa-wearing Faiza M lived in "total submission to her male relatives".

Faiza M said she has never challenged the fundamental values of France.

Her initial application for French citizenship was rejected in 2005 on the grounds of "insufficient assimilation" into France.

She appealed, and late last month the Conseil d'Etat, France's highest administrative body which also acts as a high court, upheld the decision to deny her citizenship.

well, the west is drawing a line in the sand. Muslims should note that.

France is indeed being tolerant - as she is being allowed to stay - just not being granted citizenship.

I suppose the equivalent would be a british woman stripper seeking residence and citizenship in Arabia. She would get neither and would be lucky to escape with her life.

I do not think that the west needs lessons in tolerance from Islam.

(please - pretty please - do not mention how tolerant Islam was in Spain 1000 years ago!! its today and tomorrow that counts) Tom

Salaam, I think French are doing exactly what they sre accusing other, invisible (radical Muslims),party of. If this his how secularism manifests it self, then to hell with these "DEMOCRATIC", "lIBGERAL" and "SECULAR" principles. Reality is, however, otherwise, as British are still adhering to democratic and liberal values, at least in some cases. We have a historical precedent to follow and that is Islamic Spain where Muslims, Jews and Chritians had religious autonomy under Shariah Law. People had a choice in the religious matters and remarkably thi was happening in Middle Ages. France is going back to the values of medieval Catholic Church (which was guilty of mass burnings, inquisition and crusades). May Allah help us all. Ameen.

I am astonished that some one is intelligent enough to compare a veiled woman with a stripper. France is in need of veiled woman more than the strippers, as pious women are more likely to bring benefit to the society. Loose woman only cause families to break. Regarding lessons on tolerance, it was from Muslims the Europeans learnt the notion of tolerance. John Lock, the founder of modern Liberal domocracy, wrote treatises on tolerance, being inspired by his teacher Edward Pocock (lecturer of ISLAMIC STUDIES in Oxford university[for reference see "Islam and West" by Christopher J. Walker]). If you need more examples, visit www.Islamicheritage.com. Wassalm

i am astonished that you do not understand the cultural unacceptability of both.

and in both cases there are consequences, are there not?

I fail to see the relevance of Pocock - perhaps the first english Orientalist - or Locke, whose teachings you will abhor.

i note that you have ignored my last paragraph previous.

perhaps you do not understand that we have no intention whatsoever of living under a theocracy?

that is the truth.
